Hi, I’m Andrew. I’m here to help the helpers.

You’re a leader in the helping professions who wants to do something new and amazing.

I’m the leader in helping helpers realize projects outside their comfort zone.

We’ve got a whole world to fix. Let’s get to work!

What I Do

I’m Andrew Benedict-Nelson, founder of Help the Helpers.

As a strategic consultant, I worked with big organizations all over the world, from NASA to Starbucks to TED.

But my passion is thinking with people like you: leaders in the helping professions like nursing, social work, and education. Here are some of the ways I’ve helped the helpers:

  • I helped Robert Wood Johnson Foundation launch a movement against racism in nursing.

  • I helped the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses advance principles for healthy work environments and safe staffing.

  • I helped the University of Southern California launch a first-of-its-kind innovation degree for social workers.

  • I helped Harvard Medical School reimagine how population health outreach fits into cutting-edge research.

And dozens of others. You can click here to learn about more about projects where I’ve helped the helpers. Or make a free appointment to explore how we might work together right now.

No matter your particular background or the state of your project, if you are a helper, I want to get to know you. It’s relationships with caring innovators like you that drive me.

How It Works

The invoices to my clients say all sorts of things: coach, consultant, facilitator, researcher, and even stranger things than that.

But it all comes back to a relationship with a leader or a small group. See if your situation sounds like this:

  • You’re in the helping professions: nurse, social worker, teacher, or a dozen or so others — you know who you are. You’ve got the values and the training that come with your vocation. Chances are you are motivated to stay in this profession for the long haul, but you may feel some uncertainty about what that means as you rise through the ranks.

  • You’re accomplished in your field, but… you’ve also hit some kind of limit to the impact you can realize on behalf of your patients or clients. These frustrating limits show up in many forms: cultural roadblocks, communication impasses, failures of imagination, and even sheer loneliness and frustration. You’ve come so far, but not far enough.

  • You’re ready for change. Maybe you’ve got a big idea that just needs another set of eyes. Maybe you’ve done all the political legwork for a professional summit but still don’t know quite what it will accomplish. Maybe you got the job that finally gives you the chance to change the system, but have realized nobody ever taught you how. Maybe you’re just banging your head against the wall.

I have some skills that will help. But more importantly, I have a track record of helping helpers like you push through barriers using the power of your own ideas, decisions, and creativity.

You’ve been wearing the ruby slippers the whole time, you just need someone to help you use them.
